Michael K. Williams Laid to Rest in Private Funeral

Michael K. Williams was laid to rest in the city where his mom has lived for two decades.
On Wednesday, family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones attended a private funeral in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to pay respects to the actor — who was found deceased September 6 in his New York residence.
Among the attendees at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral included Queen Latifah, as well as Williams’ “The Wire” co-stars Felicia Pearson, Andre Royo, and Jamie Hector.
The program started at 10 a.m. and featured a formal church service and Communion.
“He came to Harrisburg as often as he could,” Johnathan Branam, the funeral home manager for Hooper Memorial Home, which handled Williams’ services, told The Patriot-News. “He loved his mama. Harrisburg embraced him as an adopted son.”

After Williams’ body was found, a rep for the screen star confirmed to outlets, “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”
Per the New York Post, drug paraphernalia was allegedly found in the apartment.
Another source told People that Williams may have taken heroin laced with fentanyl.
“No foul play indicated,’’ a police insider told the Post. “No forced entry, the apartment was in order.’’
Williams — also known for his roles on “Boardwalk Empire” and “Lovecraft Country” — had been open about his struggles with addiction.
In 2016, he told NPR that he sought help at a New Jersey church while filming the third season of “The Wire.”
“When I came through those doors, I was broken. This was, I would say, around the third season of ‘The Wire.’ I was on drugs,” he said at the time. “I was in jeopardy of destroying everything I had worked so hard for, and I came in those doors and I met a man who had never even heard of ‘The Wire,’ much less watched it.’”
He will be missed.
