Viral Star Antoine Dodson Asks Public to Help Cover Costs of Mom’s Funeral

Antoine Dodson — a viral star who famously told the public to “hide yo kids, hide yo wife” in a now-famous news interview — is asking the Internet for help following his mother Jennifer’s death.
Earlier this week, Dodson created a GoFundMe page revealing that after his mother passed away this Sunday, “her insurance lapse[d]” and that he is not in a financial position to cover the costs.
“I’m asking for your help, even if you can’t I appreciate all the love and support coming, God bless us all!! Thank you,” he wrote. “PS the total cost for my mom’s funeral is $10,231 so I put the goal there, thank you guys so much.”
As of this writing, the page has raised $9,545.
On Friday, TMZ added that Jennifer passed away at a hospital in Decatur, Alabama, and that Dodson was told by doctors that she reportedly died of heart failure.
Dodson said his mother had problems with her legs around 10 years ago, and that both limbs were eventually amputated a few months ago.
He added that this procedure led to an infection and forced her to be hospitalized in the ICU. However, Antoine said his mother was on the mend, which is why he was shocked when she passed.
“This was so unexpected. I talked to her before that, she was fine. She came out of [the] ICU. [I thought] ‘My mom is gonna be okay,’” he told TMZ.
Dodson further explained that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he is not in a position to be able to pay for Jennifer’s funeral.
“COVID stopped a lot of stuff. I wasn’t really getting a lot of jobs anyway… But [when] COVID happened, that shut a lot of travel down and stuff like that. It’s kind of been dead ever since.”
Back in 2010, Dodson gave an interview to NBC affiliate WAFF-48 News after an intruder allegedly attempted to sexually assault his sister in her second-story Huntsville, Alabama, bedroom.
“Well, obviously we have a rapist in Lincoln Park. He’s climbin’ in yo windows, he’s snatchin’ yo people up, tryin’ to rape ’em. So y’all need to hide yo kids, hide yo wife, and hide yo husband, ’cause they rapin’ err’body out here,” Dodson said in the clip.
After his interview went viral, it inspired several musical remixes, including one by The Gregory Brothers, who used Dodson’s voice in the “Bed Intruder Song.”
The song reached number 89 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and was performed by both Dodson and The Gregory Brothers at the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards.
