Gayle King Is a Grandmother!

Gayle King is “over the moon” that she’s officially a grandmother!
During Monday’s broadcast of “CBS This Morning,” the anchor announced that daughter Kirby Bumpus welcomed her first child, son Luca Miller, with husband Virgil Miller last week.
Immediately after Kirby left the hospital Friday, Gayle hopped on a plane and actually “beat her home Friday ’cause it took so long to get released from the hospital”!
“I wanted to be a grandmother for a long time, and it’s really something when you see your own child become a parent. I am so nuts about him. And then I was holding him, Kirby goes, ‘You know, you have to support his neck.’ Uh, okay! I actually know how to do this!” the journalist joked.
“He’s very, very cute, so congratulations to my favorite daughter, my favorite son-in-law. Now I have a favorite grandson! I’m over the moon,” Gayle added about her grandson.
Back in April, Gayle revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that Kirby was expecting just months after Kirby and Virgil tied the knot at godmother Oprah Winfrey’s Santa Barbara home.
“Ellen, I have to tell you this: Right before I came on the air, I said, ‘Kirby, you know, I’m doing “Ellen” today. Can I tell Ellen?’ Ellen — she’s pregnant. She is pregnant,” she told Ellen on her daytime talk show.
“We haven’t told anybody because I’ve been held to secrecy. She told all of her friends this past weekend, so she said I could tell you,” added King.
After Gayle told Ellen that she doesn’t want to be called “Grandma,” she asked DeGeneres for “cool” grandparent nicknames.
“How about ‘Miss Lady’?” Ellen suggested before King shot it down.
“That’s your assignment,” King said, “to come up with a cool grandmother name for Gayle.”
Congratulations to Kirby, Virgil, and the entire King family on your new addition!
