Mother-Daughter Duo Charged with Murder After Allegedly Performing Illegal Butt Lift

A reported mother and daughter have been arrested and charged with murder after they allegedly performed an illegal butt-lift procedure at a home in Encino, California.
As reported by KCAL9, Libby Adame, 51, and Alicia Galaz, 23, were charged with murder after allegedly performing an unauthorized procedure on Karissa Rajpaul, 26, who, per the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, died at a hospital the same day as the October 15, 2019, operation.
Adame and Galaz were previously arrested August 5 in Riverside.
Per ABC7, investigators allege the women injected Rajpaul with some substances used by qualified cosmetic physicians — but combined them with dangerous chemicals. The news channel reports that Rajpaul received a total of three alleged procedures, and died after the third one.
Police also say the suspects erroneously presented themselves as specialists.
“They were mixing them with chemicals and other substances that clearly are not appropriate for any medical procedure that would be performed on a human,” LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told the news channel, adding, “These individuals have no medical training. They’re not experienced and they’re putting people’s lives at risk.”
Rajpaul’s cause of death was listed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as a homicide due to acute cardiopulmonary dysfunction and intramuscular/intravascular silicone injections.
Per ABC7, Rajpaul came to Los Angeles from South Africa, hoping to work in the adult film industry. Rajpaul also shared a video on social media in which she received one of the treatments.
Per KCAL9, Adame was released a day after her arrest after posting $1 million bail. A court date has not been scheduled for her case.
Galaz, who was released on bond two days after her arrest, is scheduled to make her first court appearance December 8.
Investigators are also asking for any other possible victims to come forward.
“We’re also seeking additional victims and relatives of victims who may have had loved ones disfigured or who passed away,” Hamilton added.
