Utah Football Player Aaron Lowe Killed During House Party Shooting

Aaron Lowe, a sophomore cornerback for the University of Utah Utes, was tragically killed in a house party shooting early Sunday morning.
Per Salt Lake City police, authorities first received a noise complaint around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday regarding a party on the 2200 block of South Broadmoor Street.
Two hours later, officials received a call about a fight involving a weapon at the same address.
Per police, shots were fired at around 12:20 a.m. local time at the home. At the scene, officers located Lowe and an unidentified female who was also shot.
Sadly, Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a local hospital where she is reportedly in critical condition.
After the news broke, police chief Mike Brown released a statement saying he is “deeply saddened” by the death of the “talented young man.”
“The Salt Lake City Police Department grieves with and offers our condolences to the Lowe family and the University of Utah community,” the statement added.
Brown added that an investigation is ongoing to identify a possible suspect or suspects.
In his own statement, Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham mourned Lowe’s passing, saying, “We are devastated to hear about the passing of Aaron Lowe. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and friends, along with the other individual who was harmed in this tragic incident. Aaron was a great teammate, friend, brother and son and was loved by anyone who crossed paths with him. He will be deeply missed.”
Per Utah’s roster, the communications major was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended West Mesquite High School.
Though he began his high school career as a wide receiver, he switched to defense at the end of his junior season. Lowe also participated in track and field.
In August, Lowe was named the first-ever recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship, named after former football student-athlete Ty Jordan who died on Christmas Day in 2020 — less than one week after finishing his freshman season at Utah. Per reports, Lowe and Jordan were high school classmates.
Lowe is survived by his parents, Darwin and Doma Lowe, as well as three brothers and a sister.
Our condolences go out to Aaron’s family and loved ones for their loss.
