‘Big Brother’ Names First Black Winner in 23 Seasons!

Xavier Prather has made history as the first Black contestant to win “Big Brother”!
On Wednesday night, a jury unanimously voted for Prather to become the victor of Season 23 over fellow finalist Derek Frazier.
While Frazier won $75,000, Prather took home a whopping $750,000!
After winning the prize, Prather said, “It’s surreal.”
“I wouldn’t have been here without all the members of The Cookout and every single member of the jury. And those members not in jury, who were part of the season, can’t thank you guys enough. I’m so blessed to have met every single one of you and we all made history this season, so I think we should all be proud.”

Prather is of course speaking about the all-Black, six-person alliance called The Cookout, which also consisted of Hannah Chaddha, Tiffany Mitchell, and Kyland Young.
Earlier in the season, The Cookout made history when all its members made it to the final six to ensure that a Black person would win ”Big Brother” for the first time.
Despite his loss, Frazier said he was “very happy” with the results of the competition.
“I wanted to come in here and fight for my mother and be able to help her and change her life, and I feel like I’ve been able to do that now,” Frazier said.
This year, the hit reality TV show featured its most racially diverse cast ever, comprising of only seven white contestants.
Last November, CBS promised that 50 percent of people cast on its unscripted shows would be Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC).
“The reality TV genre is an area that’s especially underrepresented, and needs to be more inclusive across development, casting, production and all phases of storytelling,” George Cheeks, president and chief executive officer for the CBS Entertainment Group, said at the time.
“As we strive to improve all of these creative aspects, the commitments announced today are important first steps in sourcing new voices to create content and further expanding the diversity in our unscripted programming, as well as on our Network.”
Season 3 of “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” will return this winter.
Congratulations to Xavier on your well-deserved win!
