Shooting at Grambling State University Leaves 1 Dead, Several Injured

A shooting during homecoming weekend at Grambling State University has left one person dead and several others injured.
Per a press release issued by the Louisiana State Police, Sunday at around 1:30 a.m., the university’s police department called on the help of the state police after a gunman opened fire on campus, shooting eight people.
According to police, one victim was pronounced dead and seven others, including one Grambling State student, were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The historically Black university later confirmed that the incident happened during a homecoming event at the McCall Dining Center.
While noting that the campus has been cleared for normal operations, homecoming events scheduled for Sunday as well as classes scheduled for Monday have been canceled.
“GramFam, now the is the time to be Unapologetically Unified as we rally to comfort one another after this morning’s incident,” the university wrote on its Twitter page.

The university also announced a 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew until further notice.
In a cell phone video obtained by KNOE, multiple fights broke out on the school’s campus before shots were heard.
As of this writing, the incident remains under investigation, and it is unclear whether police have found a suspect.
“LSP is requesting assistance in locating a suspect or suspects in this shooting. Any information, even the smallest detail, could be of value in this investigation,” Louisiana State Police said in a release.
Sadly, this is the second shooting at the school within a week.
As reported by the Post, on October 13, two individuals who were not students began shooting at each other just after 1 a.m., killing one and injuring the other. Two GSU students were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
During a press conference Sunday, university President Rick Gallot said he is working with officials to ensure that students are safe while attending classes.
“No one is more concerned than I am right now,” Gallot said. “Our students come here for an education, and far too often, it’s outsiders who have created this situation that has put life and limb in danger.”
