Georgia News Anchor Jovita Moore Passes Away from Brain Cancer

Jovita Moore, an acclaimed Georgia news anchor, has passed away at age 53 from brain cancer.
In a statement from her station posted Friday, Channel 2 Action News announced that the journalist died the previous night, just seven months after being diagnosed.
Back in April, doctors discovered two masses on Moore’s brain, which prompted her to get surgery. Afterward, medical professionals diagnosed with her glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
At this time, there is no cure for glioblastoma, but there are treatments that may slow it down.
Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, and went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in broadcast journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City.
Prior to joining Channel 2 Action News in 1998, Moore was an on-air correspondent at WMC-TV in Memphis and KFSM in Fayetteville and Fort Smith, Arkansas.
In 2012, Moore was promoted to the main anchor desk at the Atlanta affiliate.
The news channel noted that Moore was active in charity, and volunteered at civic associations and nonprofit organizations across metro Atlanta. She also mentored students and sat on several boards of directors.
After the devastating news broke, several Atlanta figures, including Tyler Perry and Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, paid their respects.

Jovita was a wonderful mother, daughter, and dear friend to many. Even those who did not know her personally felt a deep and personal connection to Jovita. She loved Atlanta dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with her children Lauren, Shelby and Joshua, her mother, and all who loved her. May her beautiful spirit soar. Jovita will be truly missed.”
Our condolences go out to Jovita’s family and loved ones for their loss.
