Jacqueline Avant Was Awake During Fatal Shooting: Report

Jacqueline Avant reportedly came face-to-face with her alleged killer before she was fatally shot December 1 in her Beverly Hills home.
On Tuesday, a source told TMZ that Jacqueline’s family believe she was awake before 2 a.m. — just minutes before she was killed.
While the insider says Jacqueline’s husband and legendary music executive Clarence was asleep, Jacqueline was awake, as she typically was, in a different room.
When the suspect broke into their house, presumably by smashing a glass door, the source believes Jacqueline saw the gunman and the two were startled by each other’s presence.
Insiders also told the outlet that security was patrolling the front of the house while the suspect appears to have entered from the side yard.
Once security heard the shot, they raced over and were fired at by the suspect before the gunman fled the scene.
On Monday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Aariel Maynor, 29, of Los Angeles, is accused of killing Avant and attempting to kill her security guard while allegedly robbing the Avant house.
Maynor has been charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder, and felon with a firearm. He also faces two counts of residential burglary.
The DA’s office alleges that Maynor — who was arrested after reportedly accidentally shooting himself in the foot while allegedly breaking into another house in the Hollywood Hills — used an assault long barrel pistol during the robbery and shooting.
“My office is working closely with the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments in the investigation and prosecution of this case,” District Attorney George Gascón said in Monday’s release. “We must continue to work together to hold accountable the people who commit violent crimes against our community.”
Per TMZ, Maynor has an extensive criminal record dating back to 2013 and has done time for robbery and grand theft. He also reportedly got probation for a domestic violence case.
Jacqueline was 81. She and Clarence shared two children, daughter Nicole and son Alexander.
