Rapper Wavy Navy Pooh Passes Away in Alleged Drive-By Shooting

Wavy Navy Pooh, a promising rapper from Miami, has passed away from an alleged drive-by shooting.
Over the weekend, law enforcement sources told the Miami Herald that the MC, born Shandler Antoine Beaubien, died Friday after he was shot in his Toyota Camry at Southwest 152nd Street and 127th Avenue, near Zoo Miami. While People reports he was 28, CBS Miami says he was 27.
Per police, a gray four-door Lexus pulled up to Wavy’s side at an intersection and allegedly opened fire.
Though a 1-year-old baby, a 5-year-old boy, and an adult woman were reportedly in the back seat of the Camry, all were unharmed.
Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta confirmed to CBS Miami that the incident occurred on the youngest child’s birthday.
Investigation into the alleged shooting shut down Zoo Miami’s COVID testing site until Saturday.
As of this writing, no arrests have been made.
Monday on Instagram, family and colleagues released a statement on Wavy’s Instagram page, confirming the death and paying tribute to the late rapper, who was known for his song “M.I.A.M.I. (Murder Is a Major Issue).”
“It is with deepest sympathy and saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Shandler Beaubien. To the world he was ‘Wavy Navy Pooh’ or ‘Wavy’ — the artist, rapper, and ‘hood poet’ with the no-nonsense Teflon persona,” the statement read.
In the note, loved ones remembered Wavy as a “loyal family man and friend, an advocate for the voiceless, and a philanthropist who would give his last dime to see a smile on a child’s face.”
“He was a man that we all respected and truly loved. Wavy’s passion for music allowed him to explore the world and touch many souls.”

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Wavy’s record label Quality Control Music also paid tribute, writing, “It is with great sadness & a heavy heart that we announce the loss of one of our beloved artists, Wavy Navy Pooh. Our thoughts & prayers are with the family at this time. #RIPWavyNavyPooh 🙏🏾🕊”
Per People, Wavy was allegedly connected to multiple North Miami-Dade shootings in the past year.
The Herald also said that in May 2020, Wavy was wounded in the thigh and leg after somebody in a passing car opened fire at his vehicle and several other men gathered outside a house. He told officers that he fired back in self-defense.
Our condolences go out to Wavy’s family and loved ones for their loss.
