After the cute clip went viral, Olympia’s aunt Venus Williams commented, “It’s Oracene [Price] all over again!” referring to her and Serena’s mom, who also served as their tennis coach when they were younger.
Needless to say, social media users were impressed by Olympia’s tennis skills and have already determined that she will follow in Serena and Venus’ famous footsteps!
“Another Serena and Venus,” an Instagram user wrote.
“Ohhhhh watch out @wimbledon@australianopen @rolandgarros @usopen Olympia is coming for all majors,” a commenter said.
“Wicked backhand...can’t wait to see this future champion,” another added.
In an April interview with People, Serena said she and her husband were fine with their daughter playing tennis “because it’s a socially safe sport [amid the COVID-19 pandemic]” but struggled when it came to sending Olympia to tennis lessons the previous October.
Around that time, Serena documented Olympia’s first lesson, saying on Instagram Story, “Don’t even start with me because I’m not giving her tennis lessons, I signed her up for some.”
However, the female instructor had “no idea that it’s my daughter, so we’ll see how that goes.”
“I’m not a pushy mom, but I know how I like techniques,” Serena said. “I want to make sure she’s good at teaching Olympia some techniques.”
During her recent interview with People, Serena said her daughter “likes going” to tennis practice so far!
In addition to playing on the court, Olympia also joined her mom in a new commercial for Ubrelvy, a medication to stop migraines that Serena started using last year.
When asked what it was like to have her daughter on set, Serena dished, “It was easy.”
“I mean, we are still living in a really tough time with the COVID world, so we try to keep our sets clear and clean and safe as possible. Especially for young kids. But it just made a lot of sense, and now she loves to be with me, so I’m loving that.”
Overall, the mother and daughter have been spending lots of quality time together amid the pandemic.
“We’ve definitely been able to spend more time together and I love spending every minute with her,” Serena said. “It’s so cool.”
