‘Dance Moms’ Alum Abby Lee Miller Sues Hotel After Allegedly Getting Trapped by Door!

Abby Lee Miller has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the Hampton Inn & Suites after she was allegedly trapped by a door in August 2020.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, the “Dance Moms” alum alleges she was leaving the bathroom at the chain’s Santa Monica location when her wheelchair’s back left wheel got caught under the sliding bathroom door.
The Lifetime personality — who has been in a wheelchair since 2018 due to complications from Burkitt lymphoma, which affects her spinal cord — alleges that when she tried to free herself, the more than 300-lb. door fell directly on her head and left shoulder.
Miller alleges she was pinned in her wheelchair and trapped in the doorway for six to 12 minutes. After screaming for help, she says two hotel staffers came to lift the door off of her.
She was eventually taken by ambulance to nearby St. John’s Hospital.
However, Miller says she is still going to physical therapy for the alleged injuries she suffered.
In addition to the alleged incident with the door, Miller alleges she faced a number of hardships at the property during an extended stay from March to October 2020. Those claims include that the laundry room was not accessible to wheelchairs, the hallway was often blocked by housekeeping carts, and that she was unable to open doors to the pool or gym areas.
Overall, she is suing the hotel’s parent corporation for negligence, emotional distress, discrimination, and false imprisonment, and is seeking compensation of at least $8.5 million.
Back in 2016, the dance teacher pleaded guilty to felony bankruptcy fraud for creating a secret bank account between 2012 and 2013 used to hide income from master classes, TV deals, and merchandise sales. She was also accused of failing to file required monthly income reports with the bankruptcy court for 13 months.
She was sentenced to one year and a day in federal prison, and was released on March 27, 2018.
