‘Arthur’ Ends After 25 Seasons!

“Arthur” is ending on a high note!
On Monday, the classic children’s show came to an end after a monumental 25-season run — making it the longest-running U.S. kids animated series in history!
In its season finale, titled “Blabbermouth/All Grown Up,” Arthur — an aardvark and third-grader at Lakewood Elementary School who wears glasses — participates in a fortune-telling game that shows what he and his friends would look like all grown up!
News of the show’s last season was announced last July when screenwriter Kathy Waugh appeared on the “Finding DW” podcast.
“‘Arthur’ is no longer in production. We had our wrap party two years ago,” Waugh told host Jason Szwimer.
Noting that she believes network PBS “made a mistake,” Waugh contends that the celebrated show “should come back.”
“I know I’m not alone in thinking they made a mistake. I don’t know if it was a ratings issue or if it felt like it needed to be retired. To me, it felt evergreen, like it was never going to end, but it did end. We finished the last episode, Season 25, two years ago,” she added.
Despite the end of its 25th season, the official Twitter account for “Arthur” promised this week that “NEW Arthur content is coming!”
“Stay tuned for more information on a future podcast and digital shorts. Thanks for being with us for 25 years! #Arthur25,” the tweet read.

After premiering in 1996, the show — based on the “Arthur Adventure” book series, written and illustrated by Marc Brown, about Arthur and his friends and family — has won four Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Children’s Animated Program, as well as a BAFTA Children’s Award.
In May 2019, the program made headlines when it was revealed that Arthur’s teacher Mr. Ratburn was gay and was getting married!
