Farrah Abraham Defends Allowing 13-Year-Old Daughter to Get Her Septum Pierced

Farrah Abraham is responding to critics who disagree with her decision to allow daughter Sophia, 13, to get her septum pierced.
Last week on Instagram, Sophia’s official account, which says is run by her mom, posted a video that shows the teenager getting the piercing in honor of her 13th birthday.
“I got my septum piercing for my birthday!! I am so happy with how it turned out! I am the first person in my family to get a septum piercing at 13!! Birthday wish came true!!” the caption read.

However, several social media users took issue with the jewelry, which is placed through the wall of cartilage that separates the left and right nostrils.
“A septum piercing at her age is too young smh,” an Instagram user wrote.
“Are you serious. A septum piercing for a #13 year old she still a baby,” a commenter said.
“Dude she’s a bby still,” another added.
In an interview with TMZ on Sunday, the “Teen Mom” star defended her decision, saying her daughter’s “generation of 13 is much different than my generation of 13.”
“Sophia is the first... in my family to get a septum piercing, especially at 13,” the MTV personality said.
Though admitting she “wasn’t for [the piercing],” Farrah takes comfort that it was done “by a professional, sanitized and clean,” rather than the “teen going, sneaking off and doing it herself and getting an infection.”
“To those who might feel it is inappropriate that my daughter got her nose professionally done, legally done, I’m all about being legal,” she continued.
“We abided by the law. I am doing my best as a parent to make sure that she is healthy and happy, and I covered those bases. So congratulations to Sophia. I’m wishing her the best in her teen years, and if she wants to get more piercings, more power to her.”
Prior to appearing on “Teen Mom” and “Teen Mom OG,” Farrah starred on “16 & Pregnant” — which chronicled her pregnancy with Sophia, whose father was her former partner, Derek Underwood.
Underwood tragically died in a car accident in 2008, shortly before Farrah gave birth to their daughter at 17 years old.
