‘Good Times’ Star Johnny Brown Passes Away at 84

Johnny Brown, a celebrated actor best known for playing building superintendent Nathan Bookman on the hit CBS comedy “Good Times,” has passed away at age 84.
Over the weekend on Instagram, Johnny’s daughter and fellow actor Sharon Catherine Brown shared the news that her father had died on March 2.
“Our family is devastated. Devastated. Devastated. Beyond heartbroken. Barely able to breathe. We respectfully ask for privacy at this time because we need a minute to process the unthinkable,” Sharon said in her emotional statement.
She continued, “It’s too terrible. It will never not be. It’s a shock. He was literally snatched out of our lives. It’s not real for us yet. So there will be more to say but not now. Dad was the absolute best. We love him so very much.”

While speaking to TMZ, Sharon said her father was at a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday in Los Angeles getting his pacemaker checked out when he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed shortly after leaving.
Johnny was taken to a nearby hospital, where he eventually passed.
However, his official cause of death has yet to be disclosed.
Born June 11, 1937, in St. Petersburg, Florida, but raised in Harlem, New York, Johnny became a regular cast member on “Laugh-In” and later appeared on television shows such as “The Jeffersons,” “Family Matters,” “Sister, Sister,” “Martin,” and “The Wayans Bros.”
Aside from acting, Johnny was a recording artist who performed in a band alongside saxophonist Sam “The Man” Taylor, which led to Johnny appearing on Broadway twice in the 1960s.
After news of his passing went viral, Janet Jackson, who was his co-star on “Good Times,” paid her respects on social media.
“Such loving memories of our time together,” Jackson wrote alongside a photo of Johnny smiling. “You were full of laughter and forever smiling. Always so sweet and so kind to me. I love you and will miss you. #JohnnyBrown 🙏🏽.”
