Horrific Video Shows Cargo Ship Colliding with Ferry Boat in Bangladesh

At least five are dead and dozens are missing after a cargo ship collided with a ferry in Bangladesh — and the horrific incident was caught on camera.
As reported by Reuters, on Sunday, the ML Ashrafuddin — a small ferry with around 50 people that had departed the port headed for Munshiganj down the Shitalakhsya River — was struck by the much larger Rupshi-9.
In a video obtained by Prothom Alo that was shot by a passenger on a different ferry, the Ashrafuddin is seen being dragged by the cargo ship as passengers on the two small boats scream and wave at the cargo ship driver.
After the ML Ashrafuddin is pushed along the surface of the water by the cargo ship's bow, it is forced beneath the surface.
While some passengers on the ferry can be seen diving off, others are trapped onboard as the ferry sinks.
While speaking to Prothom Alo, survivor Abu Taher, who managed to swim to shore, said the cargo ship had hit the ferry from behind, dragging the boat for 50 meters before the vessel was submerged.
Per Reuters, at least five bodies — including two women and two children — have been recovered.
"The rescue operation for those missing is ongoing,” local police official Mohammad Moniruzzaman told the outlet over the weekend.
Though police do not know the exact number of people missing, passengers said more than 50 people were on the ferry. They add that some had managed to swim ashore.
Our condolences go out to the victims of this senseless tragedy.
