Young Dolph Murder Suspect Attacked in Jail

One of the suspects accused of murdering rapper Young Dolph was reportedly attacked in a Tennessee jail.
On Tuesday, TMZ reported that Justin Johnson — who was arrested by U.S. Marshals officers in Indiana in January for his alleged involvement in Dolph’s death — was punched by a fellow inmate at Shelby County Jail while in the middle of a phone call.
Per Johnson’s lawyer Juni Ganguli, Johnson was on the phone in the jail’s visitation area when an inmate walked up and hit him.
As of this writing, a motive for the alleged attack is unclear. Additionally, the outlet reports that Johnson was not severely injured from the incident.
In response, a spokesperson for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ that there was an incident Friday involving Johnson and another inmate.
They added that the event is under investigation and reiterated that there were no reported injuries.
Prior to Johnson’s arrest, U.S. Marshals, the Memphis Police Department, Crime Stoppers, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified Johnson as a suspect in Dolph’s shooting death at Makeda’s Butter Cookies last year.
Following Johnson’s arrest, he was charged with first-degree murder, criminal attempt first-degree murder, and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.
Another suspect in Dolph’s murder, 32-year-old Cornelius Smith, was also booked on a first-degree murder charge.
Per WMC, Johnson and Smith have court appearances on Thursday.
Last November, the owner of Makeda’s Butter Cookies told outlets that when Dolph walked into the store, a suspect or suspects drove up and allegedly fired shots.
Per surveillance video pictures, there appears to be two alleged gunmen, one holding what appears to be a pistol and the other holding what appears to be a Draco AK-47. While one is covered up in a hoodie and face mask, the other wears a baseball cap and facial covering.
Dolph — who is best known for appearing on O.T. Genasis’ 2015 hit “Cut It” — had three albums reach the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, including 2020′s “Rich Slave,” which peaked at No. 4. He left behind a son and a daughter.
