Tiffany Haddish is coming to Will Smith’s defense after the actor slapped Chris Rock onstage at the 2022 Academy Awards for joking about wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.
At the Governors Ball following this year’s Oscars, the star of “The Afterparty” — who co-starred in the 2017 film “Girls Trip” with Jada — did an interview with People and described the smack as “beautiful.”
"When I saw a Black man stand up for his wife, that meant so much to me," she said.
"As a woman, who has been unprotected, for someone to say, 'Keep my wife's name out your mouth, leave my wife alone,' that's what your husband is supposed to do, right? Protect you."
"And that meant the world to me. And maybe the world might not like how it went down, but for me, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen because it made me believe that there are still men out there that love and care about their women, their wives."
Prior to the altercation, Chris joked, “Jada, I love ya. ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can't wait to see ya," referencing Jada’s hair loss — as a result of alopecia — and the 1997 movie in which Demi Moore appears with a shaved head.
Afterward, Will walked on stage, slapped Chris, and yelled from his seat, "Keep my wife's name out your ------- mouth!"
Despite the controversy, Will later apologized to the Academy for his actions while accepting the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “King Richard.” Chris also declined to file charges with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Diddy also told Page Six after the award show that the two have reportedly reconciled, saying, “That’s not a problem. That’s over. I can confirm that. It’s all love. They’re brothers.”
However, while condemning “the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday that they “have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”
Back in 2018, Jada opened up about her alopecia, and detailed a story where she had “handfuls of hair” in her hands while showering.
"I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh, my God, am I going bald?'" she revealed. "It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear. That's why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it."
Last September, Tiffany joined Jada during a talk show appearance, and revealed why she shaved off her hair during the pandemic.
In addition to wanting to "know thyself,” Tiffany said she had to remove her braids for the film “The Card Counter,” and decided to cut off her hair instead.
"When I felt my head [after shaving my hair] I've never felt that sensation in my life," Tiffany shared. "It was the most amazing feeling I have ever felt in my entire existence."
In 2020, Tiffany appeared on our show and actually tried Adrienne’s famous tuna and Kool-Aid sandwich! WATCH those clips, below:
