16-Year-Old ‘Beautiful Soul’ Killed in NYC Crossfire Shooting

Authorities have identified 16-year-old Angellyh Yambo as the sole fatality in the Bronx shooting on Friday afternoon.
This week, New York Police Department sources confirmed to People that Angellyh was caught in the crossfire of a shooting that broke out at around 1:45 p.m. in the Woodstock neighborhood — blocks away from her school, University Prep Charter High School.
Insiders added to the outlet that Angellyh died after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police say there were two other victims in the shooting —whom were also students who were unintended targets heading home after school. The two other victims are expected to recover from their wounds.
Speaking to the New York Post last week, Angellyh’s aunt Margarita Yambo described her as a straight-A student with a "beautiful soul" who loved playing Fortnite.
“She was a girl who went to school and came straight home. She was never in the street,” Margarita said. “She was one of the sweetest girls you’d ever meet.”
Over the weekend, Angellyh’s mother Yanelli Henríquez told Telemundo 47, “I lost my life, I lost my daughter. I have no words to say or even express to you what I'm feeling right now. I just can't."
Recently, organizer Chantal Lorenzo created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Angellyh’s family during this difficult time.
“Angellyh was an extraordinary young lady. To encounter Angellyh is to experience magic. [Angellyh had] a heart of gold and [was] a pure soul. She brought so much love, joy, laughter, and light to this world and her loved ones,” Chantal wrote.
As of this writing, the page has raised over $27,000.
At a press conference on Saturday, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said 17-year-old Jeremiah Ryan has been arrested on charges of murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon for the Friday incident.
Prior to this, NYPD Chief Timothy McCormack said last Friday that six shell casings were recovered from the scene and that the gun used to commit the crime is believed to be a ghost gun.
It is unclear if Ryan has entered pleas to his charges or if he has retained an attorney.
Our condolences go out to Angellyh’s family and loved ones for their loss.
