Pregnant Mississippi Mom Fatally Shot During Night Out with Friends

A pregnant Mississippi mother was fatally shot as an innocent bystander outside of a club in Marshall County.
As reported by WREG, Jacqueline Brownlee confirmed that her daughter Takila Gross was killed Sunday morning outside Roosevelt's on Highway 309 South.
Brownlee said Gross — who WREG says was a pregnant mother-of-two — was out with some friends at the time of her death.
“She was with friends and they were just having a little night out and she was just an innocent bystander. She was actually on her phone when it happened,” Brownlee said.
Per WMC-TV, the Marshall County Sheriff's Office said an altercation broke out between two people, whom were not connected to Gross, that resulted in shots being fired. Officials say Gross was struck while she sat in a nearby vehicle and died at the scene.
"There was a female in it that the driver thought was having a seizure. Further investigation revealed she had a single gunshot wound to the head," Kelly McMillen from the sheriff's department told reporters.
Though Brownlee rushed to the scene, she soon discovered that her daughter was deceased.
“I just could not believe what I saw. I saw a body on the ground, already covered,” Brownlee said.
Investigators believe as many as three shots were fired during the alleged altercation.
Police say 38-year-old suspect Andre Norman was the one who fired toward the vehicle that Gross was riding in.
WREG alleges that Norman initially fled the scene, but was captured later Sunday morning. Police also recovered a pistol.
The outlet adds that Norman has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled on May 2. It is unclear if he has entered a plea or has retained an attorney.
While speaking to WREG, Brownlee remembers her daughter as one who “was just always smiling.”
“She never met a stranger. People always just attached themselves to her,” Brownlee said.
Our condolences go out to Takila’s family and loved ones for their loss.
