The Ladies of ‘The Real’ Say Farewell After 8 Seasons! WATCH!

It’s the end of an era, Real Fam!
On today’s series finale, the ladies of “The Real” — Loni Love, Adrienne Houghton, Garcelle Beauvais and Jeannie Mai Jenkins — celebrated eight wonderful seasons in which we discussed buzzworthy topics during Girl Chat and hosted various fun segments throughout 1,360 episodes.
For the very last episode, our hosts got emotional while looking back at their time on the show and all of the amazing feats they have accomplished.
“We have made our mark,” Adrienne declared.
While recounting a conversation she had with her mother Nilda, Ade spoke about the legacy of “The Real,” the first show on daytime television to feature a panel made up exclusively of women of color.
“I was talking to my mom earlier this morning, she knows this is the farewell show and she was just telling me, like, ‘You guys really did break the mold of daytime television,’ and it’s so crazy when you think of it that way. There was never a show that looked like us,” Adrienne said.
Though the show is ending, Ade is “grateful” for her time on it and hopes “The Real” is “not the last” show to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
While reflecting on her eight years, Loni discussed the wide variety of talent that has appeared on “The Real,” including our good friends Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey!
“The whole purpose of this show was that we would put on people that normally would not get on daytime talk. We’ve had people, all of the Tyler Perry movie people, we’ve had the Oprah people, we’ve had Laurence Fishburne. And we were able to talk about things that some people, they just ignore. When you look back at eight seasons, over 1300 episodes, it’s phenomenal — and it’s historic.”
Additionally, Loni opened up about how “The Real” has unapologetically discussed social issues affecting communities of color that other shows shied away from.
“We still have to fight for, like, justice and equality. We can’t be afraid to talk about this,” Loni exclaimed. “We’ve had deep discussions, and when you have multicultural people on, from different cultures, we’ve been able to cover AAPI, we’ve been able to cover the Haitians, we’ve been able to cover the Latinas, the Black people, the women.”
Overall, Loni said it best when she declared this is not a goodbye — this is a celebration!
“We hope that our example, with what we’ve done, can continue. Don’t let this end. Get another show like this together, with fabulous women, because we have a whole future of things. We are so proud, and we will not be sad today. We celebrate.”
